ASHEELAMA, the name alone is intriguing, given to her by her father and it means “God I pray”
The 27 year old yorkshire based songstress was born and raised in liverpool by an irish mother and a Nigerian Father. Hailing from a musical family Asheelamas siblings include a brother who is a rapper and also the founder of cloud 19 recordings. Asheelama discovered her love for music as a youngster and wrote her 1st song at the tender age of 9. Since then she has honed her craft and continued to write all of her own material as writing for others artists. Coming from a family of 7 siblings her outgoing character and bubbly persona are a result her deep rooted family up bringing. Indeed Asheelama spent nearly a decade as a full time carer to her mother, a responsibility which she took on from the age of 15. These responsibilities came before music and Asheelama chose not to pursue her music career until the age of 23.
Asheelama has certainly hit the ground running with her 1st independent single “the letter” reaching number one twice in the UK’s unsigned chart prompting her to enter and reach the grand finals of live and unsigned in 2009. Now a seasoned performa she has honed her craft at venues up and down the country including The Cavern Club in Liverpool, Sound in leicester square and Portsmouth Guildhall. She has also appeared on numerous BBC radio shows from raw talent to Steve Whites show. The increasing demand for her music encouraged her to write and record her first studio album with manchester based Label free-st8 productions.
This versatile singer songwriter who also finds time in her busy schedule model, act and write childrens books and short stories embraces the fact that she is multitalented and is always up for taking on a new challenge. Ex ABA boxer and Currently involved in martial arts Asheelama has called on the discipline and determination required in these fields to progress her music career.
Asheelama prides herself on being approachable and despite her considerable talent she keeps her feet planted firmly on the ground. Her music is a fusion of Rnb Jazz and Accoustic Soul complimented by the earthy tones of a seasoned Songstress. Her motto is to live life to the fullest and her “no regrets mentality” is perhaps the reason why her music career has presented her with so many opportunities in such a short space of time.
This year promisses to be very productive for Asheelama with a number interesting projects in the pipeline including the release of an EP followed by her debut album and music video. In addition she will be releasing her annual calendar and actively collaborating with a several exciting artists
